Elder Scrolls VI Will Be an Xbox/PC Exclusive, Which Should Surprise No One

Come on Playstation fans, did you really think Microsoft would let this come out on the PS5?

In an in-depth article on GQ UK covering Phil Spencer’s tenure at Xbox, Spencer essentially puts any and all speculation to rest.

“It’s not about punishing any other platform, like I fundamentally believe all of the platforms can continue to grow… But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.”

GQ

Seems pretty definitive to me. I mean, he does not outright say exclusive, so I guess the door is ever so slightly open.

Playstation fans

I wouldn’t put any money on this though.

Activision Blizzard Employees Walk Out Following Bombshell Wall Street Journal Report On Bobby Kotick

Activision Blizzard employees have staged a walkout today following a Wall Street Journal report stating CEO Bobby Kotick has known about instances of sexual misconduct at the publisher and its studios dating back to 2018.

The report which follows months of reporting, interviews, and documents obtained by the WSJ claims that Kotick knew of numerous sexual assault and harassment claims at the publisher and its stable of studios for years. The report also states that Kotick did not notify the board of directors of an out-of-court settlement to an employee who accused a supervisor of rape. That is a major no-no. Boards for billion-dollar companies like to know of these things.

Just last month, Kotick agreed to take a massive pay cut down to $62,500 per year until Activision Blizzard’s board feels that diversity, equity, and inclusion goals are met.

In hindsight, the board may need to reconsider that decision entirely and perhaps seek tougher action against Kotick.

Xbox Game Pass Is ‘Very, Very Sustainable’ According to Phil Spencer

Xbox Executive Vice President Phil Spencer has shared during a press briefing celebrating the Xbox’s 20th anniversary that Game Pass is “very, very sustainable” and is “continuing to grow.” This runs counter to many skeptics who believe that the service must be a loss leader with the goal to build up as many subscriptions as possible.

“I know there’s a lot of people that like to write [that] we’re burning cash right now for some future pot of gold at the end… No. Game Pass is very, very sustainable right now as it sits. And it continues to grow.”

Phil Spencer via Axios

Earlier in the year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that Xbox Game Pass has 18 million subscribers, which is nothing to sneeze at. With the highly successful launch of Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite coming up next month, and a growing stable of first-party exclusives, as well as 3rd party games, things are looking mighty bright for the service.

Sony Cuts Playstation 5 Production Due to Global Chip Shortage

The Playstation 5 along with the Xbox Series X|S have been in high demand and still difficult to obtain for over a year. According to a report from Bloomberg citing sources close to Sony’s internal operations, the global chip shortage is continuing to impact Playstation 5 production.

The chip shortage is so severe that Sony had to cut production of 16 million PS5s by in the year ending March 2022 down to 15 million. That is a shortfall of 1 million consoles, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Looks like it’s going to continue to be difficult to land the coveted console for a little longer.

According to a Random Tweet, The Fable Reboot Has Been in Development For At Least Four Years

According to a tweet from Tom Gaulton, a lead engineer at Playground Games, the Fable reboot has been in development for over four years. The dude was just trying to celebrate his four-year anniversary at the developer. Hoping he didn’t get any shit for this.

The Fable reboot was initially revealed in July 2020. This would indicate that the title has been baking for a bit and is well underway, or one would think. Also of note, this tweet is celebrating his four years at the company, so there is a possibility that the game has been in development longer.

The last entry in the franchise was Fable III back in 2014.

The Nintendo Switch Is Only Mid Way Through Its Lifecycle According to Nintendo Boss

In a recent investor QA, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa claims that the Nintendo Switch, which launched in 2017, is only halfway through its lifecycle.

“We are not able to comment about the next game system at this time. It is now the fifth year since the launch of Nintendo Switch, and the total hardware sell-through has exceeded 90 million units. We recognize that the system is at the mid-point of its lifecycle. The launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model has also been contributing to continued sales momentum and we are now offering consumers three Nintendo Switch models to match their play styles and lifestyles, as well as a wide range of software.

With this, we believe a foundation for growth has been laid that exceeds what we previously considered to be a conventional hardware lifecycle. With regards to the next game system, we are considering many different things, but as far as the concept and launch timing are concerned, there is nothing we can share at this time.”

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa

This of course does not necessarily mean that a successor to the Switch is not in the works. It also does not mean that we need to wait another five years for a Nintendo console as there is no doubt there will be overlap. This is just your regular run-of-the-mill crap corporations say in investor calls.

A PS5 Jailbreak Can Be Imminent

Hacking group FailOverflow is claiming to have decrypted the PS5, which will allow them to do very naughty and unauthorized things on the console. You may recall that the same group was able to jailbreak the PS3 several years ago.

I’m not going to pretend to know what any of this means, but apparently it’s a big deal.

What the above tweet may eventually result is the PS5 being fully ‘jailbroken’, which may lead some bold users to copy games from discs to hard drives, downgrade their system OS, and run emulated software. This will make Sony very sad obviously, so jailbreak at your own risk.
