EA Choses Battlefront Over Battlefield… For Next Couple Years

If you’re a big fan of Battlefield 1, well then you’re in luck, because you’re going to be playing it for a “couple of years” according to EA’s chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen. See! I can spin things to make them look like a positive like a fancy pants PR executive.

Jorgensen, who spoke at the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program yesterday mentioned that EA “won’t have another Battlefield back for a couple of years. Next year we’ll have Battlefront, the Star Wars game.”

So good news for Star Wars Battlefront fans I guess.

All of this is not surprising. Star Wars is hot right now, with Disney releasing new movies every year, while the Battlefield series has been, in my opinion, getting stale.

And yes, Battlefield 1 is quite the departure for the series, going back to World War 1, but it’s still Battlefield, with all the good and bad that comes with it. Perhaps this is a good thing as it will allow DICE time to really dig in and develop something new and exciting.

Speaking of Star Wars Battlefront, EA released a new trailer for Battlefront: Rogue One Scarif and what can I say, it looks impressive. Then again Battlefront trailers always look impressive.

Battlefront is just a fun title, in a pick up and play sort of way. It’s not sophisticated, but it’s balanced and looks amazing. Also it’s Star Wars, so you really can’t go wrong. I’m not surprised that EA wants to hitch its wagon to this franchise for the foreseeable future. It’s a license to print money, and EA loves money.

Rogue One: Scarif is the fourth and final expansion for Star Wars Battlefront. There will be four maps total, taking place on the tropical planet Scarif. You’ll also be able to play as hero Jyn Erso or villain Orson Krennic, with his fabulous cape and all.
